In recent decades, people with intellectual and psychosocial disabilities have been the focus of international conventions. At the level of national legislation, we discover the tendency to replace outdated and often degrading regulations with new, modern rules. This transition was not without problems, however. The article presents the historical evolution of personal protection in Romania and a comparative analysis of the current regulation with that of some European states.
